Exciting News: AI Lessons at Our School.
This month, our school is diving into the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with some awesome lessons for our students. These lessons are all about helping our kids understand AI and how it’s changing the world around us.
Who’s Teaching These Lessons?
The lessons are a collaborative effort between our informational specialist, AAPS teacher, and educational technologist.
What’s the AI Literacy Program All About?
We are using the AI Literacy lessons from Common Sense Education (https://www.commonsense.org/). The lessons cover everything from the basics of AI to its applications, ethical issues, and how it impacts society. Our students are learning how AI works and how to use it responsibly.
To make sure everyone uses AI tools safely, we’ve introduced the GenAI Student Agreement. Here’s a quick rundown of what it includes:
- Using AI Responsibly: Students promise to use AI tools ethically and understand the consequences of misuse.
- Knowing AI’s Limits: Recognizing that AI isn’t perfect and might not always get things right.
- Staying Safe Online: Keeping personal info private and staying safe on the internet.
- Fact-Checking: Double-checking AI-generated info with trusted sources.
- Balancing AI Use: Making sure to balance AI use with real-life interactions.
- Watching for Bias: Being aware of potential biases in AI outputs.
- Avoiding Plagiarism: Using AI tools honestly and giving credit where it’s due.
- Asking for Help: Seeking guidance when needed.
- Reporting Issues: Reporting any misuse of AI tools.
- Staying Curious: Always exploring and learning more about AI.
By following this agreement, our students are committed to being safe and responsible users of AI.
Why Are These Lessons Important?
These AI lessons are super important for preparing our kids for the future. Here’s why:
- Critical Thinking: Students learn to think critically about AI outputs.
- Ethical Awareness: Understanding the ethical side of AI helps students make smart decisions.
- Digital Skills: Boosting digital literacy to prepare for the digital age.
- Problem-Solving: Encouraging innovative thinking and problem-solving.
- Teamwork: Promoting collaboration among students, teachers, and experts.
By teaching our students about AI and how to use it responsibly, we’re helping them become informed, ethical, and innovative thinkers. We can’t wait to see how our students grow and thrive in this AI-driven world!
